About Boni Arendt

Boni Arendt is a North Carolina painter working in acrylic and graphite. Her signature work stems from a love of nature and the human condition. She loves to observe and express her vision of the beauty of life. Her latest work is fluid, colorful and Renaissance-inspired figures dissolving into art nouveau swirls of botanical pattern, in the decorative tradition of William Morris and Alphonse Mucha. She calls it decorative, and means it as a compliment.

Her palette comes from her own garden. Boni has grown zinnias for four years, including a year running a flower-growing business, and their pinks, oranges, and golds now move through her paintings like a second language. Each piece is a garden and an embrace at once.

She also paints custom portrait commissions in acrylic and graphite pencil — people, pets, and homes — with holiday booking each fall and gift vouchers available through December.

Boni grew up in eastern North Carolina and earned her BFA in Painting and Drawing from East Carolina University, where she was named Outstanding Senior. She spent over a year in England painting portraits and studying Interdisciplinary Design at Berkshire College of Art and Design, traveling through Egypt, Amsterdam, France, and Italy with a sketchbook full of architecture and design. Back home, she opened The Red Rooster Gallery in Wake Forest, selling her work and teaching lessons, and later earned her Masters in Education. She taught art for three years at a Chinese School, Champion Learning Academy in Morrisville, NC, working with students ages 4 through high school in afterschool, summer camp, and specialty programs. Today she teaches painting and drawing lessons and workshops from her home studio, alongside her studio practice, murals, and commissions.
